Bookmarking Demon 4.1 released!

I just had a chance to upgrade to Bookmarking Demon 4.1 today and I’m happy to see that there is a lot of new stuff in this version. First of all, for existing Bookmarking Demon 4 users, upgrading is a snap. Just unzip the bmd4.1.zip file and replace the new file EdwinSoft.BookmarkingDemon.exe with your existing file. Once you’ve done that you’re good to go.

The first thing you’ll notice when launching Bookmarking Demon 4.1 are the newly added social bookmarking sites. Here is the full list sorted by PR:

As you can see, there are now a full 20 main bookmarking sites available for your use. Bookmarking Demon 4.1 also adds support for Pligg sites. For those who are not familiar with it, Pligg is an open source content management system (CMS) that allows you to create Digg style social voting sites. There are 12 Pligg sites included in this release and the ones I checked all had dofollow links and a Page Rank of 2 or 3. Scuttle, Scuttle Plus and Pligg sites are also now pingable in this release.

There are some minor changes to the UI. For example, in Expert Mode you can now choose not to use certain user accounts for bookmarking by dragging them into a separate area. This also works for specific pages you want to bookmark. This is especially handy if you’re using the built in website crawler on a site to gather pages to bookmark and you want to exclude certain pages.

Bookmarking Demon 4.1 is also a little smarter. The tool will now detect if you’ve already bookmarked a site using a particular account. It’s also smart enough to check if you’ve already created an account on a particular social bookmarking site.

One last thing Edwin has included with this release are some videos. There are now screencasts for pretty much every feature of Bookmarking Demon available on the main site. You can see them all here: http://bookmarkingdemon.com/trainingvideos.htm. If you’re looking to buy the program, check out the videos first to see how everything works.

I just checked the main site, and I was suprised to see that Bookmarking Demon 4 can still be bought for the original $97 price. There is a headline that says that they’re still having a “pre-launch special” before the “official launch”. I’m not sure when that will be, but make sure you pick up your copy of Bookmarking Demon before any price increase.

More tips please.

1. If I only create one account (per site), how quickly can I add all my sites? 100? 200? 500?

2. Once I’ve added the sites, can I go back again and bookmark specific pages? How often can I do that?

3. Who has a good list of scuttle sites?

#2 admin on 01.05.09 at 8:35 am

Hi Chip,

1. I haven’t tried bookmarking that many sites in one session, but it’s just a matter of you entering them all in an making sure they have good titles, descriptions, etc.

2. You can only bookmark a specific page to one social bookmark site/account. This new version automatically checks for that. You can bookmark a page to different social bookmark accounts as many times as you want.

3. I would just google for ‘list of scuttle sites’

Hi, I just bought bookmarkingdemon and am a little frustrated. There is only 17 mains bookmark sites, so many good ones are missed. I hope that the developper will add many more, because scutles and pligg ones aren’t very useful.

#4 admin on 02.24.09 at 4:28 pm

There should be the 20 ones I listed on this post. Which one’s do you think are missing?

All of this is new to me, how is Bookmarking Demon which you say posts to 20 sites, superior to socialmarking.com when they post to more sites than 20?

#6 admin on 03.21.09 at 12:15 pm

I really don’t know what other sites Edwin is planning to add, you’ll have to ask him.

The big advantage of Bookmarking Demon over socialmarking.com is automation. With socialmarking you have to manually log in (and create accounts) to each site one by one. BMD does this all for you in one screen, plus it handles multiple accounts. In addition, BMD has the ability to spin the content of your submissions and automatically include links from custom RSS feeds.

Of course socialmarking.com’s main advantage is that its free. I guess the question is, how much do you value your time? =)

Thanks for the information on the Social Bookmarking Demon. I do like the software’s features.

I’m planning on testing it out. I’ve had much success with paid bookmarking submissions. Most of the services I’ve used posted to 100 bookmarking sites or more.

I have some problem with my bookmarking demon ,I had tick auto load meta tags when adding my web pages ,and success to add the url but no tittle,no tags,no description,I have added tittle, keywords, description on every post on my website .It makes me so tired to fill tittle, tags, description again .It was working before ,but I don’t know what’s wrong with my bookmarking demon ?
Anyone can help me >

#9 admin on 04.10.09 at 11:02 am

Are you sure the meta tags are set correctly on your site? I’ve personally never had a problem with BMD finding the correct tags. Perhaps if you share your site, I can take a look.

#10 nash on 04.20.09 at 4:05 am

Thnx for sharing this info. I read from somewhere tha BMD submits to 125 Social sites but now i know that the main social sites it submits to are 20.

Are the rest scuttle and pligg sites? If they’re, pls do u know the details of these pligg and scuttle sites?

#11 admin on 04.20.09 at 9:32 am

Hey Nash. The info in my post is a little out of date now. As of Bookmarking Demon version 4.1.2.2, the program supports 17 main bookmarking sites, 21 scuttle sites, 63 scuttleplus sites and 8 pligg sites. That’s a total of 109.

#12 nash on 04.20.09 at 2:12 pm

Thnx mate! Then it looks like the service is deteriorating now. If the 4.1 had 20 main sites and the current one has 17 main sites, how is this an improvement.

I thought he was gonna add more sites but it looks like the main sites are rather decreasing.

#13 admin on 04.20.09 at 2:30 pm

Just FYI, the 3 sites no longer included in my list are:

co.mments.com
contentpop.com
bookmarksync.com

Co.mments.com went out of business, but I’m not sure why the other 2 were removed. They were 2 of the lower ranked sites on the list though.

I will agree that it is a definite concern that the list is shrinking. I will shoot off an email to support and see if there are plans to add more main sites. I will say that as an owner of BMD 3 and 4, that Edwin has been pretty good with provided updates to the software. I’m personally not too worried about it, and the software still works well for my purposes.

#14 nash on 04.20.09 at 3:30 pm

For bookmarksync.com, it’s got PR3 so why ist being dropped, i just don’t know. It also looks like diggup.co.uk has gone out of biz thus needs to be removed as well.

Cheers for the info dude!

#15 admin on 04.20.09 at 11:25 pm

Just an update. According to Edwin, the two other sites that were dropped were down when they last scanned them, but he will look at them again now that they seem to be up.

He also mentioned that they are hard at work on BMD 5 which will add more main sites.

#16 Phoebe on 04.21.09 at 12:17 pm

I’m considering buying SBD. Can you give me the advantages of your software compared to other social bookmarking software especially social bookmarks demon? As of now, SBD have 109 sites. Can I add scuttle and pligg sites? How many sites I could add? How about PhPdug? Can I add those too?

#17 admin on 04.21.09 at 12:32 pm

Hi Phoebe -

First off, Bookmarking Demon isn’t my software. I just own a copy and wrote a review about it. =)

Anyway to answer your questions, you can add any number of additional Scuttle, Scuttle Plus and Pligg sites. Unfortunately it does not support PhPdug. I would submit a request to support to see if this can be added in the next version if that is important to you.

I haven’t used any auto bookmarking software tools other than BMD, but compared to web based sites like socialmarker.com, BMD is just a lot more automatic in terms of creating accounts and submitting links. Plus you get the spinning and cloaking features which I’m not sure those other sites offer. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong though.

#18 nash on 04.21.09 at 2:42 pm

Splendid! So 5 more main sites. If i decide to buy the 4.1.2 version, will i get FREE upgrade to the vers. 5?

#19 admin on 04.21.09 at 2:47 pm

Yes, you get free updates for life. Plus there’s a nice refund policy so if it turns out BMD is not for you, then just request your money back.

#20 nash on 04.21.09 at 4:55 pm

Whoa! thnx dude. the BMD guy should just reward u for blogging and doing his support work for him.

cheers again mate.

#21 florida business directory on 06.15.09 at 10:31 pm

on the descriptions of http://bookmarkingdemon.com/, it says the software includes 100 bookmark sites, but on this page here it says only 20 bookmark sites. Which number is correct?

i know there are more than 250 popular bookmark sites on the web, why only 20 bookmark sites are listed in the software?

#22 Mike on 06.16.09 at 5:09 am

It supports 20 main bookmarking sites, and 80+ scuttle, scuttle plus, and pligg sites. And you can add your own if you like.

Each bookmarking site is different and I imagine it would be a maintenance nightmare trying to support every single one. 20 is a more manageable number for Edwin I would guess.

#23 Jeff on 06.28.09 at 12:49 pm

Hi there,

Just started using Bookmarking Demon but unsure if I am using it correctly. Question: Does the dialogue box for START BOOKMARKING close on its own? Or does it just keep running until I close it? I am concerned because as it continues, my BMD meter creeps up from a notch above LOW SPAM to HIGH SPAM…

I don’t want to be banned but not sure if my closing of the aforementioned dialogue box cuts off my submissions…Any input?

#24 Mike on 06.28.09 at 4:31 pm

Hi Jeff,

The dialog box stays open and you get another window that pops up that tells you when it’s done.

I don’t think that has anything to do with your spam meter though. If you want to keep the meter low, try adding some additional sites to include via the rss feed feature.

#25 Jeff on 06.28.09 at 7:05 pm

Hey Mike! Thanks for your input. I have been closing the dialog box before the pop up. So I will let the app run its course and look for that pop up.

To your point of adding RSS feeds, I do have two rss feeds mixed in with my URL submissions. However, I wonder if the high spam meter reading is due to sending too many urls at once. My last run saw a submission of 15 pages from my Black Rainbow.ca website. Should I be reducing that down to maybe 5 or 6 pages per run?

In relation, how often would you suggest I run BMD in a safe and ethical manner?

#26 Mike on 06.29.09 at 11:42 am

Yeah, 15 pages from one site is too much. Try just doing 2 or 3 per run and rotating every day.

#27 Jeffrey Cheng on 07.05.09 at 10:02 am

Okay i see. Would it be enough to do a weekly run?

Thanks for your input.

#28 Mike on 07.05.09 at 10:41 am

You can do daily or weekly runs, it’s up to you.

#29 Jeff on 07.05.09 at 7:35 pm

Hey Mike! Thanks a lot for your guidance. Much appreciated. One!

#30 Jeff on 07.07.09 at 10:00 pm

Hey guys,

I am having trouble creating accounts for 9 of the Main sites which are Mixx, Blogmemes,Faves, Indian Pad, Oyax, Propeller, Spurl, Syncone, and web2list….i am using my Black Rainbow and Hotmail email…Does anyone out there have any idea why I would be denied? I hope I did not get blocked/cut off for unintentional spam?…:(

#31 Mike on 07.07.09 at 11:09 pm

Its hard to say. I would go here http://support.edwinsoft.com/ and ask Edwin himself. He’s pretty decent with support and should be able to help you figure it out.

I’ve be using Social Submitter for about 6 months and have been getting awesome results. As a matter of fact, this is one of the primary tool that I use for SEO for my clients. This is the first time I have heard of Bookmarking Demon. Any comments on how it ranks against Social Submitter – I’m tired of the $50 fee every few months.
